Beaten Rice ( Poha) Vada

I saw this recipe at Edible Garden. ( Thank you ).   It was a hassle-free vada to make.  And did not absorb much oil unlike the other vadas especially the urad dhal type

Ingredients:

Poha ( beaten rice) - 1 cup
Onion - small - finely chopped
Green chillies - 3 medium - finely chopped - since there is no grinding, it requires these chopped finely.
Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Ginger - 1/4 " finely chopped
Rice flour - 1 tbsp
Refined flour ( Maida) - 1 tbsp ( for binding)
Curry leaves - finely shredded
Salt to taste
Oil to deep fry

Wash poha well.  Soak in little water for a while
Drain and crush well
Add finely chopped ingredients, jeera, curry leaves, salt.
Mould to small balls. Flatten.
Deep fry till golden brown.

Serve with chutney, sauce, or as in the original recipe - dunk in rasam or sambar.
(Note - You may need to sprinkle some water if the dough is very dry.  )

For variation - add boiled potato, besan ( gram flour), finely cut vegetables.  Whatever.  It will taste good.

I also made a dahi vada out of these. Just soak them in a little water and place them in salted and spiced curd. Season and garnish and serve.
