Green Gram Curry ( Moong Curry)

Ingredients -
Whole Moong ( Green Gram) - 100 gms
Tomato - 3 - chopped - (or Puree - 50 ml)
Onion - 2 medium - finely chopped
Garlic - 5 pods - chopped
Chole masala - 1 tbsp ( or coriander powder, garam masala powder)
Dry mango powder - 1/4 tsp ( you can use tamarind paste too)
Jeera - 1 tbsp
Chilie powder - to taste
Salt to taste
Oil - 2 tsp

Soak the moong for a couple of hours.
Cook with little water in pressure cooker till soft. ( When the first whistle goes off - switch off cooker)
In a wok, heat the oil, add the jeera and allow to brown
Add the finely chopped onion and garlic. (For a gravy - brown the two and grind to fine paste)
And the tomatoes or the puree ( I added a tomato and some puree)
And the boiled gram, the chole masala, chili powder, salt, dry mango powder
Simmer for some time.
Serve with rotis

  1. oh sigh...can I come over for supper?! Delicious. Do you make your own roti? What kind of a pan do I husband's aunti taught me once a long time to make chapati, it is thicker than roti right? Or is it the same? I just remember it was a very flat and 'edgeless' pan. I would pat the top with a wet cloth to 'raise' the middle and the loveliest little 'bubbles' appeared.

Some time to spare? Do leave a comment. Thanks.
