Mooga Gashi

Sprouted Moong (green gram) - 100 gms
Coconut - 1/2 fresh grated
Red chillies -4-5
Tamarind paste - 1/2 tsp
Yam ( optional) but preferable - 25 gms
Onion - 1 medium
Oil for seasoning
Asafoetida - pinch

Cut yam into small pieces and cook with a little tamarind ( it may result in an itchy feeling otherwise). Discard tamarind piece or the water in which it is cooked.

Boil sprouted gram with little salt till soft.

Roast in little oil the red chillies

Grind coconut, tamarind and chilies to fine paste.

Add the paste to the cooked moong. Add the yam, the tamarind paste, salt and boil for 7-10 minutes.

Add more salt if required

Take off fire.

Take a seasoning spoon, and in a little oil, add asafoetida and the diced onion. Saute till slightly brown and add .

Mooga Gashi is thus ready for serving.
