Raw Banana Podimas

I think I need to take a course in food photography. All dishes seem to look alike. All the same, the picture on the right is a preparation of sa's favourite vegetable - the vazzhakai or the raw banana. Picture on left is that of Aloo Podimas. It is not really my favourite but is one of the easiest vegetables to cook and cutting the vegetable is done in a jiffy. Try it!
Raw Banana - 2 ( or potato)
Green chillis - 4
Coconut (grated)- 3 tbsp
Turmeric - pinch
Urad dhal - i/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Lime juice - 1/2 tsp
Ginger - 1/4 " finely diced
Asafoetida ( hing) - pinch.

Wash, cut raw banana and cook ( with skin) along with turmeric and some salt.
Once cooked ( I pressure cook it )- it does not take too long to cook but it is simper to put it in the cooker when you make the rice or dhal. It gives you time to take a break and watch TV.

Cool, peel and cut in small pieces

Take oil ( be a little generous if you want the curry to taste good)
Add mustard and urad dhal
Once the mustard splutters, add curry leaves, split green chillis, asafoetida, chopped ginger, cooked banana
Saute on low fire for a while.
Add more salt if required.
And the coconut gratings.
Take off fire, add a dash of lime juice
Garnish with corriander leaves.

Same dish can be made with potato. Should be eaten hot.
